What You’ll Learn at a Medicare Workshop
January 5, 2023 | Kari Mellone
At Twin City Underwriters, we help Medicare enrollees feel more at ease and in control over their healthcare decisions. Many of our long-term clients first get to know us at a free Medicare workshop at their local community center. For clients who want to learn from the comfort of home, we offer live one-hour webinars at a variety of times throughout the day.

Whether you choose to learn at a live workshop or at an online webinar, there are a few key takeaways you can expect to learn from our agents.
What is Covered at a Medicare Workshop
When:
At our Medicare seminars and webinars, we start by talking about life events that trigger your Medicare eligibility. We advise you about the best way to get enrolled.
Due to common misconceptions, our attendees have a lot of questions about late enrollment fees, and whether staying on a workplace plan is permitted by Medicare. We affirm the facts and give you confidence for your own enrollment timing.
If you think you might have several questions, you have the option to stay after the meeting and talk with one of our agents directly. Our in-person events provide greater opportunity to visit with you individually.
We also help you understand what to address and expect with your Social Security Medicare intake conversations. There might be times where we suggest seeking help at a local Social Security office to get enrolled, and other scenarios where enrolling online will be sufficient.
We help our clients to coordinate timing of coverage, so that you do not have insurance gaps, or costly overlaps of workplace plans overlapping with Medicare coverage.
Why:
Next, we will talk about various parts of Medicare, how each of them are designed and how Medicare will work day-to-day for you.
There are “gotchas” inherent in Original Medicare that you might not be aware of. We share details about these pitfalls so you understand how the insurance carrier and plan you choose will cover these gaps.

Here are a few of the common questions we answer at our Medicare workshops:
- Why do we deploy private insurance on top of Medicare?
- What if you just have original Medicare as it stands alone, for your plan?
- What are the ‘gaps’ in Original Medicare?
We will also begin to explain one of the first Medicare decisions you’ll make: whether you are comfortable with a Supplement plan (otherwise known as Medigap), or whether you should choose a Medicare Advantage Plan for your healthcare and prescription drug coverage.

We will cover this topic at a high level. We are available for individual meetings to discuss your situation and needs more closely.
Which:
Finally, we will share information that helps you choose a carrier and a plan with confidence. Many factors go into these decisions: your health care needs, budget, priorities and goals. Our agents are available to help you find the best option for your individual situation.

As you transition into Medicare and choose a plan, you will become more aware of the workings of Medicare and its various parts (Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D).
At TCU, we aim to help in your quest to understand Medicare and choose a carrier and plan that you are comfortable with. Then we help you find mastery as you navigate your Medicare journey. We hope to see you at an online or in-person Medicare workshop soon!
