Your brain is the most important organ in the human body – but one that we often neglect. There are many ways you can keep your brain strong. Use these 5 tips to help your brain think right and do right.
1. Get Physical
You probably already know how important physical exercise is for your overall health – and your brain is no exception. Exercise helps delivery oxygen-rich blood to your body and your brain, which improves its function.
2. Eat Right
Good nutrition is vital for a healthy brain. There are many different diets floating around that claim to improve brain function. You should work with your doctor to find the best diet for you, but generally speaking, Mediterranean diets provide brain-boosting nutrients like plant proteins and unsaturated oils.
3. Avoid Tobacco and Alcohol
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but tobacco and alcohol can both impair your cognitive process. Mood-altering substances like tobacco and alcohol take their toll on your focus, attention and memory.
4. Get Plenty of Sleep
The old adage “sleep on it” carries a lot of truth. Sleep is when your body repairs itself and when your brain gets some much-needed rest to recoup. Try to aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
5. Stimulate Your Brain
There are an endless number of ways to keep your brain active. A daily word puzzle, math problem or riddle gives your brain a chance to stretch its legs. Taking new classes is another fantastic way to strengthen your brain.
